Beautiful enamel ... snowdrops
Janine Partington is a designer-maker based in Bristol combining the traditional craft of enamelling with fresh, clean, contemporary design.
This handmade enamel picture is made from enamel and copper.
Vitreous enamel, also called porcelain enamel, is a powdered glass material which can be fused to a metal base by firing at a high temperature around 800°C. The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vibrant and glassy coating. On panels where copper is showing, this has been coated with a sifting of clear enamel known as flux which seals the colour. Once the panel is finished the design and colours are set and will not fade.
Janine says her inspiration comes from nature – ‘from the world I see around me’. Recurring images seed heads, trees and birds and still life kitchen objects.
The enamelled copper panels are mounted on an 18mm MDF blocks painted white with a toughened endurance matt white paint that can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
Care has been taken when choosing how to frame the pieces not to detract from the tactile aesthetic of the art work.
The range of subject matter of Janine's work make them perfect gifts from new baby, wedding/engagement, new home, bird and garden lovers, or just a little treat! They look great on their own but also have great impact when displayed as a pair or in a multiple group.
They come in their own protective gift box which makes them very easy to post.
Size: complete with frame 15cm x16cm. The copper panels are 8cmx8cm.
